Trying out a new pond
« on: Feb 12, 2016, 10:51 AM »
hi guys - I'm planning on trying out a new spot this weekend and i was wondering if you guys had any tips. I don't really know the structure of it as I've only fished it a few times in open water and there arent any contour maps available for it ::)

I'm going to be targeting perch, panfish (trying to get my first crappies through the ice) and I will probably set a few tipups for pike because I know there are some pike lurking around in there. So to target panfish/crappie what type of bait or lure would you guys suggest?  Any tips would be greatly appreciated :)

Not giving us a lot of info to go on here. Chances are, someone on this forum has fished it.

Set up a couple poles, 1 with a small jigging rap, maybe another with a tiny jig head and some rubber...sonar would be helpful, do you have any?

if  I were  you I would  check that  ice  every step ....that  being  said   drill holes   just off the  shore  out and  set tip ups  then then  fish the  further  side  toward  the  wood  ...lot of  crappies in that little  lake

Lots of current in that pond. Be real wary of the east end around the slough. It's not deep, there's a decent population of gills but size can be an issue.

Be very careful. 1 night of 0 degrees does not a frozen pond make ;D

unfortunately no, not sure what the weather is looking like for the rest of this week but if it's going to stay relatively cold I will check this weekend but not if it's going to keep raining.
