Fishing Regs lifted for Pecks Pond today (2/11/16)
« on: Feb 11, 2016, 09:25 PM »
Just saw on the PF&BC website that fishing regs are now waived in preparation for the damn dam rebuild.

It's nice that they're doing that for us, they should've have done this at White Oaks and Miller's Pond, not like they didn't know the draw down wasn't going to happen.

They lifted the regulations at White Oaks and Miller's Pond during the fall, not the previous ice season is what I meant.

I think it took some time for them to raise the money to fix the dam but has been an issue for years. All the invasive plant growth on the pond has probably held off the F&GC from making the announcement until they felt there has been SAFE ICE with the warmth this winter. Although, it has probably been fish able in recent past weeks as people have been all over nearby Promised Land State Park.

I actually have never fished Pecks Pond. One of the few lakes I never hit, ice or open water. All I know is that it is notorious for weed growth and how super shallow it is. Was the fishing pretty good? Big bass and or crappie in it? It's a lake that rarely gets reported on from this site. Just curious. Never realized it was 408 acres either...big body of water even if it is shallow. Thanks for any info

Has anyone fished it lately?  I heard the weed grown was so terrible it was difficult to get through.

Weeds to the top all over the lake.  Hard to get a bait thru the weeds in open water and frustrating through the ice
I fished, therefore, I was.

you have to bring a potato rake or something and clear a hole through the weeds.

I'll walk a few miles for a good fishing experience.  But, raking after I cut my hole is not my idea of fun.

you're just clearing out an area right under the hole. Basically ya shove the rake down turn it a couple times and pull it out. Give it a few minutes to let the silt settle, you should have an opening to the bottom where the fish are.

The was treated this year for weeds, so you might see a change in the amount.  The weeds were so abundant that it was hard to fish.  After the draw down and winter freeze next winter the weeds should be under control as long as it is treated from time to time.  It would be great if they would clean out some of the muck when the lake is down and give it more depth.
This is a DCNR lake and not in control of the fish commission so everything would have to go through them.  Tax dollars pay for this operation not license sales.
