Anyone have a status on the ice around Preston?
« on: Feb 11, 2016, 09:35 AM »
I was thinking about fishing around Preston this weekend since I will be in Pocatello but with all of this warm weather I was wondering if the edges are rotted out already? If I can manage to get on the lake I would imagine the slush would be bad. Anyone from that area have anything to report? The lakes I would be looking at are Winder, Twin, Johnsons, Lamont, and glendale. Thanks

dunno if i'm too late, twin lakes is totally safe. over 12" of ice, a little bit of slush, but not a problem if you have halfway decent winter boots. no problems on the edges.

decent. the water's clear enough you can sight fish in 20 FOW, but the fish aren't schooled up, so they're wandering, and they were biting real light. got bites on bait, flies, and plastic, the only thing that really seemed to matter is color. chartreuse, green, glow, and pink worked great.

find the weed edge and put your baits either just above the top of the weeds, or a foot deep in the weeds. sonar or a camera is a huge advantage.

Haven't been out this week, but with 45 degree days and rain like today it'll be over quick.
