safe to leave ice shelters?

Heading up to fish Maine this weekend since I got no ice around me. Is it safe to leave your ice shelter up overnight there, because i know if i left it out around where i live it would be stolen in no time. Your advice would be appreciated thanks.

Fished a lake over the weekend that fits that location. Guy lost his traps out of his jet sled. The next day we went looking and found them someone had taken 1 trap out and pulled the flag and set next to the bag.. pretty cool

I'm pretty sure if you leave a portable shelter out on the ice overnight, you legally have to mark it with your name, town and phone number in two inch letters and numbers...just as if it were a permanent shack left on the ice....

I'll second that, ask one of them the what length the fish has to be.

If it was me I would set it up and take it down and reset up the next morning. You would sleep alot better and not much time lost.

HAHAHA  that's hilarious. Although I'd modify it slightly... Kittery - Waterville forget about it. Waterville to Bangor 50/50. Bangor and North you'd be good to go. Can't trust those Mass holes!

I do it often in the Lincoln area but it's dark when I leave and barely light when I get back to it

If you leave it overnight and the wind came up .A Constance moving could loosen your ice spikes  and they would fly a long ways. It only takes a few min to set up. To be safe do not leave it over night. Too bad to lose 300 bucks that fast,  My recommendation .

You might be surprised, you could fold it up and put a bar of gold on it to hold it down, most of the thieves around  here would be to lazy to move the gold to steal the shack..

Portable shacks take hardly any time to take down and set up,  Why take a chance on the wind coming up and blowing it down the lake. Have fun picking all your stuff up also , that would suck.
