Hit the road early with My Friend John aka Just a Trout.

Our original plan to target a new spot didn't pan out, do to limited access and sketchy ice conditions. So I came up with a couple alternatives and asked My Buddy what he prefer we do?
He's an easy going guy and was up for anything.

We decided to fish a small lake that has the potential for a decent Brown from time to time. Typically its a Very Slow fishery because its only stocked with approx 300 small Browns a year (10-14" avg stock size) But because of the abundance of bait fish it has the potential for the fish to grow BIG. However... Natural bait usually means slower fishing....

Because this was "plan B" We were a little later than normal getting set up but had lines in by about 7:30. Not much to tell until about 11am when we contemplated leaving and trying Plan C ?...

We said we would give it a little bit and If we didn't get a hit in the next half hour we would leave to go elsewhere.

11:15... The rod fires and I had a fish on. Fish made a couple decent runs and after a couple minutes I had a decent Brown on the ice. Took a pic or two and sent it back down the hole.

Again... Figured We would give it a few min... 11:45. I could see one of my other rods fire on the opposite side of our spread. The reel was peeling line off at a good clip and the rod was thumping on the ice...

The hole was partially froze over so I cleared away the sharp edges best I could to avoid a break off... The fish was pulling pretty hard and I could tell it was decent. It made a few runs peeling line and I would work the drag to get it back... Eventually it came to the hole but still wasn't ready to be landed. Worked it a little awhile longer until I was able to get a hand into the hole and under the fish to scoop it up on to the Ice.

Fish was approx 25-26" and in the 5-6lb range.
This pond Does Not receive any broodstock fish so its been in there a little while. Took a few pics and released.

That was the only action of the day. Fished til about 330. and packed it up.
