Last Weekend
« on: Feb 05, 2016, 01:15 PM »
Hiked in over 7 miles round trip.  Cutbows up to 20" and a bonus brown.  Wind was crazy.  Ice was missing along the edges so I had to use a log to get on the ice.  Fish were being picky throughout the day.  Probably landed 10-15 and had a few come unbuttoned, including a monster that I fought for quite a while.  I was hoping to go back this weekend but the wind looks bad.

Yea, I wasn't sure how the lower elevation ice was last weekend and I've been wanting to hit this trout spot for a while.  I'm thinking of trying for bass/panfish this weekend but not quite sure if the ice is good.  The cold might have strengthened up the edges or the snow might have screwed it up.

Nice job!  Looks like some quality trout that day --- a good break from the coveted warmwater species.   Not sure about how the ice on front range ponds is holding up...this snow may have done some weird things to it.  Seems like it could be a death-trap if the ice was weakened during the warm week or two before the storm, and then the snow covered up the weak points.  Sketchy.
Flags up, gentlemen!!!

Some really gorgeous trout there! Larger metro waters are still solid. But the reports on smaller waters are def a lil sketchy. Partner up fella's, be safe out there this weekend.
