what makes a good ice scoop
« on: Feb 04, 2016, 09:11 AM »
I've seen several, BUT is there a scoop out there that will get all the chips out with just a few swipes, I mean hell I don't have time to take the extra 15 seconds to keep scooping and scooping I'd like to scoop all the chips in 2 maybe 3 scoops..   and yes I'm kinda serious

This would clean the ice out of a fishing hole pretty dang quickly.

Here you go One Scoop?

That's what I thought too.  It's certainly the way to find out if your 8-inch auger cuts a full 8-inch hole.  Mine doesn't.  Consequently, I had to grind down the One Scoop edge to a bit smaller than the diameter of the hole.  It works fairly well but it's really a Two-or-Three scoop.  ;)

I found that a similar kitchen utensil with the handle on a 45 deg angle works better than the normal slush scoop.

I just punch the throttle on my auger as I pull it out of the hole, puts most of the slush on top of the ice.

If you don't want to scoop at all try an Ice Hogger ice shroud.  You can see them here:

http://icehogger.com/shroud_jiffy.html

It works really good. Only thing is it sometimes causes a little suction raising the auger out of the hole.

I have a metal scoop that is constantly icing up, which is a pain.  I would recommend a polypropylene one like the Frabill.

X7 or is it 8...  great be able to just lean over, has a tape out to 30 in for measuring fish or ice depth, and are darn near indestructible.  Smack em around to clear the strainer holes in below 0 temps and never has a issue.

I still think the kitchen utensil with thee handle on a 45 angle is a better design----it lets you shoot the slush across the ice near the hole rather than the 'lift and dump' action of a normal scoop.

I agree.  I'm using a deep fat fryer skimmer off of amazon.  Can get different diameters depending on size of your hole.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I use an Ion with reverse. It works surprisingly well at clearing the holes.

Not much left to scoop after that.
