Ice is good..6-10 inches depending on body of water..snow is insulating it for awhile anyway. Be good through Saturday, but sunday if may get a little soft after 3-4 days of 40+ temps...Big snowstorm (blizzard maybe?) coming in late Monday and going through until Wed. early forecasts are 10-16 inches of snow, with 30-40mph winds...Groundhog day...it's that stinkin' furry Punxsutawney Phil's fault.

anyone have a good gun to get rid of him? I was thinking a Weatherby .243 ought to do it!!!

that much ice on probably soft ice anyway after this 3-4 day warmup will kill the ice. might be last weekend to get out on it safely in this area if this storm materializes like they say.

Pony creek was 6-8". No fish. Mile hill is 6". Bunch of fat gills and small bass. Perfect day for ice fishing.

Clam Guy:
where did you fish on Pony (was that yesterday or this morning?)
I'm thinking of heading out there tomorrow after school for a while.

I tried just north of the steep boat ramp and then just across from the private boat ramp. Marked a few but no takers. That was this morning.

down here in mo it is pretty sketchy around the edges but has 7" of ice out a little further.  today and tomorrow will be it as all the ice will be unstable and it is windy and sunny here.  then gotta fill the gap with "?"

SW Iowa ice conditions (as of 12-9)
Around Glenwood, most of the small bodies of water are capped (good ice-making last night...single digits and light winds!) so it looks like a good cap to start with for base. I'm guessing (and also looking at next weeks weather forecast) that we'll be able to get on ice on some area waters by end of next week.

Farm ponds, small lakes (maybe even Manawa on certain parts of it) should be fishable
Best thing is it looks like little if any snow for this area in next 10 days--and temps mainly in teens and 20's--with lows at night in teens and single digits through all of next week!

I'm planning on trying some local areas next weekend around Glenwood---PM me if any of you in this area are interested in hooking up. Better to have a few buddies this time of year with early ice!
I spent last weekend getting all my gear ready to go and I'm anxious to try out some near lures/tackle I ordered from Custom Jigs & Spins!

;D ;D took a drive around Denison this afternoon and most of the ponds around here should be good to go next weekend with at least a good 4-5 in. of solid ice. good luck and be careful! ;D

Manawa has a little over 2" off the north boat ramp. Alot of cloudy ice the first 10 ft out. Mid next week should be good enough to fish with the temps. Be safe!

Bulzeye 121:
any more idea on Manawa on ice thickness as of Sunday (12-11) morning? I'm thinking about driving up from Glenwood..check it out..perhaps around Boy Scout Island? Ice should be hard ice, since we haven't had any snow or mixture of stuff to get into it--or on it--and temps haven't been above 30 (or any sun to provide direct sunlight heat.

thanks. Made it out for a little while today. Checked Manawa, but guy I was meeting there had already moved to Big Lake (northside of CBluffs) and we fished there for awhile. Brutally cold! Windy and raw. we had 3-4" ice at Big Lake. A couple of other guys where there and they had caught a few trout (they stocked lake back before T-giving) but ice was really clear--and so was water. Good to be out on ice for first time, but it was cold!!
