Thompsons lake
« on: Jan 23, 2016, 03:47 PM »
Anyone else been out there yet? Went out 1/21/16. There was 6 inches of ice. Tried out my portable fish finder for the first time on ice. Showed fish and my jig but the bite was slow and only managed to get a small perch.

Nice that's a good one. There's some nice perch and panfish in there for sure. Good luck if you get out again.

dstaples002, I caught a 13" + today also. SM Bass & pickerel. Left early. Wind was coming up and cold in the face. Needed flip over or shelter.

Didn't fish today but my father lives on Thompsons and I was by visiting and the place was packed. People all up and down the lake especially around the boat launch. Makes me glad I have days during the week off so I can go when no one is around. Too many people in the world now lol.

Fished 8am to 1pm in 35 to 40ft for trout.  1 flag that took the button out 20+ feet and dropped it. Also had couple tipups stripped of bait a few times. Medium shiners 10 to 20ft under the ice. (Thought about it and should have dropped 'em deeper with no snow on the ice) Marked a few jigging but no takers.

Thanks for the reports and info on the Derby guys.
The ice has been in very good shape everywhere I've fished, including the deeper water... 7-8" and growing.
Question.....Does anyone know if they had a late stocking of trout this Fall? Reason I ask is, I've been hitting a lot of small trout in a few areas, small as in 7-8"....they seem to be concentrated in a few areas where I normally get perch...something I've not encountered in the past....anybody else?
Kind of sucks actually, as I know for sure some of them weren't going to make it after they were released...
Best of luck to those fishing in the Derby next weekend!!

  Tight lines!   :icefish:

I stopped in at the Park office today and got confirmation that the derby has been canceled . Based on the weather projections for 40's/50's next week they have decided to play it safe. I don't blame them. They try to encourage families/kids to participate and better to be safe than sorry.

Probably won't reschedule as it takes time to plan ahead and organize everything. When these warm temps hit the first thing to go is the shoreline. It would be a mess with small kids and older people who visit the tourney. Fish it while you can and keep dry. No trout as of yet but maybe next week...............

hey guys, new here but have been fishing thompsons for the past few weeks. right now theres easily 9' of ice. was out all afternoon on Wednesday, 3 pickerel and one cat. the weekend produced more pickerel and one nice trout run.  we've covered from the rock wall by the launch all the way up past the stream and haven't had to much luck, top to bottom. on average we've had 15 tip ups out(3 of us) and a mix of flags just under surface and on bottom.

If you check out the other thread on here about thompsons we've been posting info there. Been slow besides the small rainbows that are taking over the perch spots
