Shallow or deep water crappies.
« on: Jan 23, 2016, 01:24 PM »
What's up everyone? A buddy of mine got me hooked on crappie fishing. Especially during the hard water season. I was just curious to see what ur thoughts on fishing them shallow or deep. I know every piece of water is different and the weather also has a part in it too. But u guys tend to have better luck catching them shallow or in basin areas in lake? Just curious...

there is a lot of things that will effect where they will be. things to consider are weather, air pressure, fishing pressure on the particular lake, structure of the lake, distance between the deeper water and the shallows, food sources in the lake. a thing that will help is to get a lake contour map and look for areas where there is a flat area between the contour lines. you will notice this when you star to see the contour lines go from being tight to each other and then they widen out then come back together. look for points going out into the basin where it goes from shallow to deep water in a close distance. look for natural travel ways and funnel area's.

If I want to camp, deep.  If I want to run and gun, then shallow.

I like to fish suspended fish over deep water at night.

Went out this weekend and caught a bunch in 7 feet of water about a foot off the bottom. Only time I've ever ice fished for them.
