Haven't fished it yet but I checked on the ice yesterday, back sets have 6-8" black ice with very little snow covering. Shoreline seemed firm, someone had a wheeler on the ice. Main lake was a little sketchy. I spudded out from the beach about 5-15', seemed firm. Started drilling a hole and after about 2 inches the ice started to crack. I just packed up and got off quick. Hope this helps!

thanks! kids are a little skid dish about thin ice, if you know what i mean, they driven me crazy to go out but wanna be sure its all good!
You will be OK on the backside, main lake is not for me to say i havent drilled it and it looked really shady last sunday... I wish it was safe !!! but , IMO the main lake is at best borderline, Backside however is good ice.. As said solid 6-8 everywhere out into the chanel...

Just click the link that was posted above. Monday morning is going to be very cold for young people. Tuesday looks much better. Just food for thought.

Going to visit a friend in Rome next weekend. I'd like to introduce him to ice fishing. I usually fish tip ups for pike. Anyone recently visit Delta Lake? Any tips for access and what fish to target?

I've been going on the back sets along the camp grounds. Got a 31" northern about 10 feet from shore. Plus plenty of perch.

I'm coming to the ice fishing derby this  weekend  and  wondering how many  entrants they usually get? And what kind of prizes do they have for the kids?

all sorts of prizes, its a pretty good derby, last year some augers were raffled off and shelters i believe.. 100 bucks for every biggest fish...Kids all get something.. Its a good time..If you dont get in it, you are missing out... :)

Ill be giving a pre derby report tomorrow, hoping the lake isnt all kicked up but we will see, gonna check things out mid afternoon tomorrow

Yes. Without a doubt. When it's like that, the whole lake shuts down. DSH knows better than anyone. What are you looking to target?

Never fished sandy. Or wouldn't even know where to start. I will do some research. Thanks trapper
