Simcoe Update
« on: Jan 21, 2016, 04:42 PM »
Hi Gents

The Simcoe Perch grounds have some fishable ice.

Cook's Bay south end, Virginia Beach, Port Bolster, Beaverton

The deep water Laker/Whitefish areas are just barely iced over

Have Fun Play safe

How thick is the ice and is the area around Big Shoals frozen over from Georgina Island toThorah Island and inward?

I don't imagine any of the bigger water is ready at this point but I'm not a local.
Gonna hit Gilford today for "hopefully " the afternoon /night bite. Hopefully we can find some jumbos 😊

Theres lots warnings on the Simcoe board to be very careful or better yet stay of off of Simcoe as the ice is sketchy with the warm weather and rain.

I was out there also.
Same DINKFEST for us.
Between 2 of us we caught well over 300 with only 10 keepers between 10"-11.5".
They were hitting everything we threw at them including the sinkers.
Action steady all day.

We plan a trip up to PB on the 13th, how's the ice holding up? can you use quads? I heard you can't get to VB because of open pressure crack?.  how far out can you go from PB?.. any info would be appreciated . Thanks guys

Hi Doug

Its +9'C here today We had lots of rain last night.  However if you can believe the weatherman he is predicting some cooler temps for this weekend, Feb 6, and some colder temps before next weekend Feb 13.

So as for Feb 13  You should be OK in the bay at Port Bolster or Holmes Pt or Virginia Beach.   I would advise you not to travel on the ice around Duclos Pt from Port Bolster to Virginia Beach.

My $.02
Rick

Hi Chi

I have not been on the ice in the Beaverton area, So second hand info, but as Nocod said it should be good.

Tim Hales has huts out on the Perch grounds.    Unless we get a bit of snow it will be as slick as a skating rink!!

Not the best for sleds

Have fun
Play safe
Rick

Hey Rick. Pete here. Good to see you on here giving good info.Hows things going? I just was sent a video off Facebook form Daves Huts up on Virginia Beach showing them cutting 8-12" of ice. They are moving their huts so hopefully things will stay cold up there. Pete

Hi Pete

Good to hear from ya!!

With the return of some more seasonal temps most of the typical Simcoe Perch grounds should be fishable.

However there is a lot of open water out on the Big Lake
