I tried to go in a couple weeks ago but the gate was still closed on the road and I wasn't about to try running the pond to get there.

Ok back from spencer and jackman. Gate was open and spencer rd is plowed. They are Logging in there right now.
About 8 inches of good ice on the lake but the south inlet was still open. Caught a bunch of Brookies and some splake but we stayed pretty close to shoreline. Great trip!! Go get em

I've met the guy that takes care of that place a few times and seems like a nice guy.  Even invited my wife and I to fish in his shack.  I'd love to get a tour of that place.

The lodge with all the little cabins is so cool. We met the caretaker one trip and he was pretty cool. I've never seen anybody stay there though??  Granted I only go up in the fall and winter.

Where is the access to the lake? Can I drive there? My buddy has a camp on Old Spencer Rd, but he no I have ever fished up there in the winter. I would like to get my ducks in a row before going. I am not looking for secrets, just an FYI.

Drive as close as you can to mile 13 on Spencer Rd.  Take road on left through gate, if gate is closed you can run fish pond and follow the trail to the inlet.  If you can get through the gate which it sounds like you can, the trail will take you out right onto the lake.

Went after the rain. Spencer road plowed to about mile 11. Need to sled in from there to landing on Fish. Open water near thoroughfare on both ends, be careful. There was an inch or two of water on the ice over entire lake. What were drifts was slush, some places maybe 8 inches. With this fresh snow probably all slush. Open water couple places in the narrows. Stay left close to shore. 8 to 12 inches of ice on lake. Bring plenty of bait, the perch are hungry

Catch anything besides perch?

Funny you say that because in about 5 or 6 times fishing it, we have only caught a few perch total.

Fished Spencer the fist year they opened it 2 ice fishing belive it was 1975 might have been earlier. But do remember riding in on 1969 moto ski grand prix, what a sled back in the day, think I was fourteen.got on lake at outlet went up to the narrows caught 4lb 3 oz female brookie thought it was nice bio stop by said it was nice but across lake at inlet they were catching 5 pounders,so I said look at my laker,10 lbs 13 oz 29 half long kind of torpedo he said biggest one he had seen so far was my record till 1999.before caught laker bet we caught30 white perch fat12 -16 in. Half brother brought me ther hooked me on ice fishing.Maybe someone else remembers what year it was opened
arnie may your bait allways be under the ice.
