Ottawa County Ice
« on: Jan 05, 2016, 03:09 PM »
Just checked a neighborhood pond by me and it has right around 3 inches. My favorite pond to fish of course isn't ready yet, the spud goes through pretty easy. I want to fish the one with fish able ice but have never done good there.
I'd rather be fishing!

Did the same checked. Timbertown in Zeeland and a small pond neither one was more than a inch and half.

I just checked Eastmanville bayou, heard there were two guys fishing it straight out from the launch today. Maybe 2" of ice and it didn't look great to me. Too sketchy for me. If we didn't get rain this weekend we'd be out for sure.
I'd rather be fishing!

Going to a lake that's 5 foot all the way across tomorrow. Has 3" of ice and looked like some guys caught some nice gills out of it.

What part of the lake did you find the perch?
Heard in front of Bear Lake was doing well.

We got a good amount of snow in Allendale. Not sure on the total amount but it's not making me happy.

Well, just got back from vacation and when I left there was 1"-1.5" of solid ice but just check 5 different locations and basically found 5-6" of snow on top of rotten slush so bad that it could be broken through with a stick...  The only hope we have hear is 1-2 days of above temps with rain to start over . :-\

My pond was one hit with spud and went soaring through. Snow sucks.

Checked again today and still the same.  Got a little wet trying to bridge the shore with a plank but things didn't work out so well...

Gravel Pits in Jenison not looking to good right now either. The river is jammed up in Robinson Twp. and Just spilling over its banks @ Johnson Park in Grandville. The pits are looking pretty sketchy. Hopefully by this time next week we can be out on the ice.  Calling for rain fri and 40 on sat.

I found some. Not great, but it holds all 200 pounds of me. I'm gonna let it lock up a little better with the frigid weather we're going to get tonight. Lots and lots of gills in here, and I can't buy a friend to go with me.
I'd rather be fishing!

I had one bite in 25 or so minutes. Hard to drill holes with a bad shoulder right now. I have a buddy coming to help me drill tomorrow!

A friend told me tonight that he saw a few people fishing out on the Jenison gravel pits today. Does anyone have an update on the ice conditions there? Now that temps are dropping, things are looking better, but I want some decent ice before I take my daughters out there.

Got out on lake Mack last night off of park next to boat works minnows were frozen rock solid  so all i had was spikes only three bites. Marked blue gills off sea wall at Verplank Docks. Water by docks is rally dirty. Marked a lot of perch in about 25 ft water  but none seem to want spikes. Water was a lot cleaner out deeper. Bait shop said bite out at OBI on perch is going good. About 4 inch black ice and inch crap ice but 2-3 inch slush.

Got out today on a pond with a buddy. Caught a few good gills, mostly dinks. Did land some nice bass as well, they were loving the micro plastics!

Started at Millhouse and my buddy caught one keeper. Off the ice by 8:45 there and on the ice at one of my ponds by 9:15. Walking off the ice with 54 keepers and 55 tots gills between my 3 friends and I. Good start to the season!

Got out tonight at 4:20 or so and was off the ice by 6. Waxies worked well, but so did micro plastics. I was running low on waxies so I decided it was time to try the plastics and the gills loved them. 19 more fish, my neighbor was very happy!

No picture today, but I was on the ice from 8:15-9:30 or so. Ended with 22 bluegills. Micro plastics on a tungsten were really hammering the big guys out. It was a fun 3 days on the ice!
I'd rather be fishing!
