Hi Doug

Its getting close to icing over!!    Last night was cold -18'C But it was windy  and tonight is -18'C again with low winds
So it could ice over But then we have +5 and showers coming in for the weekend Then more cold.

With this forecast its very hard to say if there will be fishable ice mid Jan.

My guess would be "IF"  the winds stay down we could be on the "Perch" grounds by Jan 18.

If you are planning to fish Lakers/Whitefish I would say it is doubtful there will be fishable ice over the Big Lake by mid Jan.

Cheers
Rick

i am in innisfil 9th line after all this rain I think we are back to square one but maybe this coming weekend?  The East side always freezes up first and their huts are on almost a week before the west side

Best way to find out about the ice on lake simcoe is to google blue ice report, follow the link to youtube. Forget the guys name, but he is always posting updates on the ice, almost daily.

It's not worth the trip yet, most of the lake is still wide open.  Here's your link to the blue Ice Report. https://www.youtube.com/user/THEBLUEICEREPORT

Last night CTV News had a video and interviews with some but operators and videos showed that the ice is unsafe at the majority of popular fishing areas.

Just heard from him at 3:20 today. He said to inches nearshore 4 inches further out And with the cold weather it should be getting better. He also noted he saw some sleds pulling hearts out on the ice but doesn't recommend that and would not take his own sled or atv out!
