Big lake tournament
« on: Dec 26, 2015, 09:23 PM »
Anybody else fish today, I hope I'm not the only shanty member.
I was born an Alaskan I just didn't live here at the time.

It's a 6 day tournament that's broken up over the next three months. The website is www.stillcoldopen.com and it catch and release for char and bows only.  I would invite more people to come out but right now me and my partner have a 70 inch lead on everyone else so there is a lot of ground to make up. There is 5 days left and anything can happen.  Oh and it's free to enter.

Very nice I heard that Jim changed the date from the 16th to the 9th.  I'm not on space book so if it wasn't for a friend I would have had no idea.  He needs to update the website.

We did ok not as good as the first day, I think we only managed 93 inches.  How did you guys do.  The next tourney day should be good.

We did about the same as last time.  118"   It was pretty rough going though. The fish were spaced out pretty much all day.  We never really found anything consistent.  Hopefully the 30th the bite is hot!

Day 3 in the books how'd everyone do.  We landed 110 inches on the day hopefully it's enough to keep the lead.

Oh and actually your only about 100 inches out.  Something wasn't adding up so I went back and checked our numbers and somewhere along the lines we got an extra 20 inches.  I contacted Jim and we are going to get it straightened out tomorrow.  No biggie I just want to be honest.

If it is true it would probably make it in the top ten.  I think the largest recorded is a 24 lb. burbot out of Lake Louise.  21 lb. ain't that far behind.

They pulled a 22 pounder out of long lake earlier this year.  I'm guessing if one that big came out of big lake it probably had two heads and doesn't qualify for the record books. ;D

No way!  22 pounder out of Long Lake.  That's a pig.  Are we talking about mile 86 Long Lake?

Yup long lake on the Glenn, mike at three rivers weighed it on the scale there.  I've heard of big burbot coming out of there in the past it is just extremely rare.

Well it's over and boy was it close it came down to 18 inches.  Looking foreword to next year sounds like this thing might really take off and get some money involved.  Hey bighof I'll trade you a first place custom rod for a second place fish finder. ;D
