Brook Trout with the Girls
« on: Dec 05, 2015, 12:50 AM »
I was up at the Kane Valley Lakes on Sunday and they were all frozen over and people out fishing all over the place.  We picked one of the lakes and went away from the crowds from about 2:30 pm to 4:30 and did very well.  Lots of action, mostly small brook trout with the biggest being 14 inches.  All were caught on slender spoons and a small jig and worm.  Ice was about 3 to 6 inches thick with a small layer of snow.  I head there is about 7 inches all over now as of today.

Brandon thank you for the photos , always like to see youngsters enjoying the outdoors. Just watch you daughters around the Automatic Fisherman/Jaw Jackers you do not want them to take a pole to the face when the rod trips.

A good Holiday season to your family and you.

These pics make me happy!!  Some of my best memories are fishing with my dad when I was little.    :)  The smell of life jackets really takes me back, haha!!  He always got mad when we dipped our fishing rod tips in the water when trolling and when we tapped the rods against the side of the boat.   ::)  Be patient with them!!

We were fishing one evening at dusk, I was bored and my worm had bit the dust but was still soaking under my bobber while he fly fished.  Finally he gave into my whining and told me we'd leave so I picked up my pole and pulled in a 12inch sunfish!!  He was going to bring me to the local sporting goods store to get my master angler but procrastinated and the fish ended up going in the garden for fertilizer.   :'(

Another time I was casting from shore catching assorted panfish and I pulled in a bullhead (never seen one before in my entire life!)    I yelled to my dad, "I just caught the ugliest looking sunfish I've ever seen!!"   ;D ;D

Yeah, my kids love being outside.  They'll stay out on the boat all day and not complain.  Once they're a little bigger they'll be on their own.
