Devils lake a trip up north
« on: Dec 03, 2015, 01:21 PM »
Hello gents and ladies. Ok Devils Lake, I want to catch a perch the size of a liter bottle. Never been there and would like some advice on where and what to do. We thought about getting a guided service but I thought I ask the fisherman first if someone would like to join us and enjoy passing it forward to the shanty member. We would like to go this year 2015, on a extended weekend would be best. Anyone willing to help?

I changed the subject.
No one left behind.

For what it's worth, the guys in my guard unit that work and live up there recommend the guides out of Ackerman's. I never used a guide up there but from what I hear they are willing to continually move to keep on walleyes. And it seems like the guys with perch patrol are always having people limit out as well. Just my 2 cents.

I also must admit I've never fished it through the ice too.

Last year me and 3 buddies went to Devils lake. We went guided two days an on our own two days. I highly recommend a guide. You will learn a lot and that's worth something. We all know the fish will bite when they want to bite. We went with Big Johns Guide service and he was awesome.  He put us on quality fish, made us lunch on the ice and always kept us moving to find new schools of fish to give us the best opportunity.  I would highly recommend him as we are booked to go with him again in a few week. Good Luck!!!

Big John is an awesome guide. I have used him multiply times and wouldnt go with anyone else. When will you be there Devin? Im not really looking for info about the lake just more so if these guys were heading up there around the same time.

We are heading there on Friday afternoon and will fish all day Saturday and until 2 PM Sunday then head home.  We might try Six Mile Bay or Creel Bay.  Getting the Ice Castle loaded and ready to go only a little more then a four hour drive.  It will be the first time fishing Devils Lake for two of us and the third in our party Fished it back in 1986 or 1988.  Looking to get a couple big jumbo perch as well as some nice walleye's

I take it you have a place to stay already? We might have to get together to fish for a bit.

I looked into devils a couple days ago.  A flight out of buffalo had 3 to 4 layovers.  I'm going to have to take a full week vacation for that.  To bad....a long weekend would've been perfect for me.

I stayed there over New Years, had one of the cabins. Really liked the place and the fishing was good for us too (1 day guided, the other in a fish house thru Woodland)
