Ririe is always the last lake to freeze and the first one to thaw out . Last year it only had safe ice for about a week .

I drove up there on Monday.  There wasn't even ice in the coves.  I wasn't expecting any, but thought I would check anyhow.

Your best bet would be Shelley Pond or Devils Ceek .

where is Shelley pond at? i've heard good things but a google search turns up nothing. (devil's creek is too far south, when i say "near Idaho Falls" i mean nothing south of blackfoot. sorry for the confusion there)

It is north across the Street from North Bingham Park . If you are coming by freeway it is the Shelley exit then east until you cross the river . There is a small parking area on the north side of the road as soon as you cross the river bridge . There is Perch , Small Mouth bass and Trout , and some trash fish .

Correction Curt.  Lots of trash fish.   ;)

I'll bet I caught close to 30 chubs when I was there the other day.

Kept all of them, but fed them to the chickens when I got home.  They were pretty freezer burnt from being in my bucket for 2 days in freezing temps by the time I got home.

Headed in the morning, never fished Ririe before, any suggestions?  Location, depth or jig type/color.  I will update in conditions section tomorrow night when we get back.

After our last trip to Blackfoot Res, any fish bigger than 10" would be nice!

Well Curt, you were right!  We were way over horse-powered for Ririe.  3 of us only 3 poles with hooks smaller than a size 2.  The bit is so soft, my trippers didn't even go off.  We learned a lot today.  Ended up with 28 Kok's.

Thanks for the info. I went last Saturday about 100 yards off the docks and fished for 7hrs and only caught two fish. Used glow jigs tipped with meal and wax worms

Went to the Shelley pond today and caught 40 fish in about an hour.  It would be a great place to take young kids. All perch and chubs. I was about 15 yards on the ice in 22 FOW  right next to the landing.

Stacked69, I took my 3 kiddo's out today around 7 am. Fishing was pretty slow today,  we left with only one limit. About 8:30 we had a school come through and got 10 out of it, and the rest were just singles. I'm pretty sure that there was more people on the ice than fish. (it looked like black Friday at walmart out there. The ice was still about 6" thick, and soft around the boat ramp.
Plan for the worst, hope for the best!

Thanks for the reports!

This lake already has an entry on the R&C board.  Please remember to use it!   ;D

I always do good on the smallest pink swedish pimple .They will probably be hard to find if you don't already have some . They sell out fast around here .
