I'm sorry, didn't mean to blast. I fish this lake every year and am extremely careful on it. Common sense for dief. I have a few gas wells labeled on my maps. So I was just trying to get some info cause he said this is a new gas well . I will pm you next time

Has anyone fished the spillway lately? Or the east pump house? Hows it been?

Is dief a skating rink again or is some of that last skiff of snow still on the ice?

Bit of snow on it. It isn't as bad as it was a couple of weeks ago. Warm temps may take care of the bit that is on it.

Fished Coteau Bay yesterday.  Lots of guys out but not sure how many were catching.  My 4 year old managed to land a couple perch so he was pretty pumped.  Talked to a guy that was fishing spillway and said they caught 1 nice sized pike but that was it.  Bite was slow.  I obviously noticed the open spots on the main lake.  Does anyone know if that can change in a relatively short time?  Just wondering if a guy can drive to the other side of Coteau Bay today, does it stay consistent enough to assume it would be safe a week from now?  I know on other lakes I would trust it just not sure on Dief?  Any info would be appreciated.  Thanks

Please do not take any ice conditions for granted or being consistent on diefenbaker.  Especially this year. The closer you get to the channel to the main lake the more unpredictable the ice is.  That being said I have seen the middle of the bay go from solid to questionable to solid again in a very short time.  This was in a much colder winter than this where snow cover was a concern.
Don't think just because someone is driving around out there that they know the conditions or have even checked.  Every man for himself especially if you have the young fisher person with you.

Like mjs said, Coteau Bay is unpredictable at the best of times. Just think of the consequences if you do go through. For peace of mind and having an enjoyable and safe day stick to walking on and checking for yourself. Never completely trust what others tell you about ice conditions. Glad you're getting the boy out. Good luck.

I agree 100%. Dief can be dangerous to drive on in a normal cold winter,so walk or sled out this year.

Who's all goin to play on Dief this weekend in a T-Shirt?  I'll be out there for the first time in 2 years.  My dad and his group were out last weekend and they did well on burbot so hopefully it can be a repeat this weekend.  Stay safe everyone.

Was out most of the day today. Ice around Elbow is about 16" and solid. Will be getting kinda sketchy with warm temps this weekend I imagine. Very little snow left on it.
Be smart and safe.

I haven't fished for a few weeks. This afternoon walleyes were biting hard. Ice is still over 2' but shoreline is getting bad.

We were fishing off Danielson park east side on Tue. and Thurs.  Lots of large perch and walleye in 16 ft. of water.  Ice is 2 ft thick everywhere, and safe to drive, just don't venture too close to the dam. There was a current present on Tuesday, can only assume they were running water through the generators.  F.B.
The worst day fishing is better than the best day at......heck! you guys already know that!

they run water non stop...all day..all night. The only difference being the gates are sometimes open more than other minutes of the day. Not trying to correct you flyboy. Just being factual. Fish on flyboy

Ice was less than 2 feet thick on Sunday, a few inches thinner between Friday and Sunday. The rotting surface was  no longer slippery. Fishing was very slow Sunday afternoon. Big pikes could be seen swimming down the hole. It felt strange that a few vehicles were still  driving on ice.

I was Danielson boat launch Sunday.  Ice was around 18 inches.  There were trucks on it.  I walked on.
Get outside.  It does a body and mind good!

Open shore line developed here and there. Saturday was probably my last trip to Dief. There were groups of suspended fish, walleye and trout included for sure, 5 - 12 feet below ice. People were fishing in the middle of the main lake. I wonder how deep that is.

The ice near Palliser is starting to melt away from the shore. There still is 10-12 inches out in the main channel, but it's not going to be long now. Fished near my old holes and they were rotted right out.

Saw lots of Walleye and perch but they were very finicky!

This will be my last weekend on the ice.

Another skunk of a year for me at this lake, went twice, once at Elbow and then Coteau bay. Never saw a fish each time (looking down the hole) and only had the one bite at Elbow. Looking forward to summer fishing.

While I was in the tackle shop this week, I was told that some anglers at Diefenbaker are now shore fishing for pike and walleye in the open water, I think behind the dam somewhere.

The one guy said he was getting some good sized pike there. ;)

You are right WW. You can do both but shore line is quite muddy.
