Lake Lenore-St. Brieux.2015-16
« on: Dec 01, 2015, 02:19 PM »
Drove around the lake and checked half dozen of my spots this morning. St. Brieux north end no one has ventured out, flooded areas from the snow in front of the park had 3-4 inch. of soft punk white ice, once on black ice half way to the drop off only 2 wacks with my 5 ft. blue bar broke though maybe 2 inches, too thin for me. West arm has open water at culverts plenty of water on ice. Lungs  3-4 wacks on the flooded punk ice areas but only made it out halfway to the drop off and was down to 2 wacks on black ice under the snow. There was a small trail out too the drop on the Little lake at the south end, a couple of  holes have been drilled, same 3-4 wacks through punky ice from the wind and snow on freeze up there . Water in my tracks at all stops. These are my observations only and never take anyone's word on ice thickness, extreme caution with the warm weather coming. Be a little while yet for me.  Fish safe.

I was out friday to check the ice and fished for an hour and took the family out Sunday for a few hours while it was nice out.  Ice is a little rotton yet after the first inch or so of good ice ontop.  no need for an auger.  just a ice chipper.  lots of ice for me.  Fish are not biting.  i can tell you that much.  4 inches of snow on the lake with water under it so the ice will not form at all in this weather i dont think. it is walk on only.  water bounces in the holes with you walking around.

With the weather forcast as mild as it is for the next 2 weeks, it's doubtful that the annual net fishing for whitefish will go ahead this year.  It's normally held on one of the next 2 weekends.

ice has not changed.  if anything, i would say we lost an inch.  looks like instead of 2 inchs of rotten ice at the bottom, we have 1 inch.  some holes were only 3 inchs of ice yesterday.  And fish are not biting yet either.

Fished St. Brieux this morning,  2-3  inches black ice under2-3 white ice in the spots I fished. No water on ice it was all solid again, very slippery wear your cleats. Slow for me, another angler leaving same time mentioned same luck,no one else out.Fish safe.

the meeting was last night i believe.  the plan was to go ahead next weekend with it but keep it to ATV's and sleds.  I have not heard forsure what happened at the meeting but that was the general idea.

Another ridiculously slow first ice fishin day this year, brought to you by El Nino! We're lovin the weird weather but man, it's got the fish all screwed up. They are slow almost everywhere, with the very odd exception! Walked on and peppered a 300 yd stretch of lake with holes from 6 - 20 feet deep, threw everything at them and had 5 hours of fishing produce a 16" Walleye that bit so lightly never even felt him, just picked up , and he was there! A far cry from 2 years ago when my wife and I did very well at this time on Pike, Walleye and Perch. But then again I heard the bite on Brieux and Lenore was nowhere near what it had been the previous 5 years! Only 4 - 6" of ice and a surprising foot of snow in the bush Anyway with this being my 3rd dud ice fishing trip, it might be a sign to pull the pin on my 35 yr. fishing career and take up crocheting followed by a rousing session of pilates, LOL, NOT!!!!!

Was on brieux this morning...wow..slow. We were the only ones on the lake...that's a first..and probably a sign that fishing would be slow. And it was. 4 tipups soaked for 4 hrs...not one flag popped. We managed a 1lb. pike on the rods and a walleye just big enough to eat. Super disappointing  to say the least...6"-8" good ice.

Finally got the Shack out on Lake Lenore.  8 inches of ice.  About 6 inches of white ice on top of 2 inches dark. Caught a few walleye at dark.  A few shacks are starting to show up now.

Fished small lake yesterday, out from curve sign. Drilled four holes, ice thickness was 11" in all four. Two of us fished in 12' of water, 1 bite between 2:30pm & 5:15pm. Looks like people have been driving on at the launch, unloading their shacks, and parking their trucks back at the boat launch. I never drove on with my truck.

Yeah, 10 walleye in one day is good even in the open water season, but on the ice that's great.
Good going saskoutdoorsman. :)

Maybe the lake will pick up for you guys now.

I just read the announcement on the tourney page. It clearly states that the tourney will be at Lungs. The same place as before. There needs to be some clarification if it's changed.
