I'm looking at getting the 8" Nils auger for the new Clam Plate that I just got.  What I'm wondering is if the Nils cutterhead can be sharpened or do I have to replace the head at $100+ a year?

No you don't have to replace it. You can have them sharpened. Take care of the cutter head and they go along time before need to be sharpened. Frank does a great job. Check nils website I think there is a sharpening service closer to you also.
