Making progress over here. This thing will fish this year!
Exterior is complete, interior is ready for spray foam. I'm planning to spray it in 2 weeks.

Shot of the hitch, I'm very pleased the way it came out. Removable so I can switch it to the other end if it gets stuck.
The bar is strong enough I can put my jack right under it for blocking the house up.

Yes, it's not a run and gun shack by any means. I have portables for that. It's base camp, more of a cabin on the lake.

Interior isn't too exiting at this point. It's big...
I'll take some shots though.

Looks great!  I think jacking on the hitch is the best bet, but be careful since your hitch is mounted on what looks like the first 4" of the inside part of your skis.  Its a lot of weight to jack up and for that portion of the ski to hold.  If you have a problem with that I would I would pull the hitch and fabricate some plate steel to cover the entire top of your ski and around the sides, bolt through the ski and weld your hitch to it.   Just a suggestion...it looks awesome and I'm sure your going to love it ;)

The ice is quite noisy on a quiet, cold night! Unsettling for some, I love it.

Get ready for "that looks a little heavy" and "how much does that thing weigh" comments. Build it right and wait for the good ice! We fish from portables until the big boys can go out. Nice to be in comfortable big shack! Good looking build!

Oh believe me, I've heard them all... my dad refers to just about anything I put on the ice as a "lead sled"...
When I was building the skis I had told him they are hollow, kind of like big pontoons... he asked "is that for buoyancy?"
I'm not building a BOAT!
If your house is floating, you have made a number of errors, none of which involve the construction of your shack!

Just keep the updates coming! Great build!! Don't worry about the weight!! Build it comfortable and well! Then wait on the proper thickness of ice!!  ;)

Put on the trailer yesterday. Did it solo, wasn't too bad. Heavy for sure, but my smaller shack was harder to load. This one is just made better.

I spent an hour or so experimenting with the best way to do it. Went most of the way with my small come-a-long. When that ran out of travel I brought it the last couple feet with my high-lift.

Buy three hardwood dowels slightly smaller than the width of your trailer and it will roll up with little effort.

Awesome to see this project almost done.  I'd mount a small winch on it to pull itself on the trailer.  Awesome build, where are you putting it?   Would love to see it, I've followed your build great job.

Gilford beach, Winnipesaukee. I go there because of the good safe access. A lot of places on the lake are only accessible by a single little boat launch, usually with docks/aquatherms nearby. If it gets broken up, you could be in trouble with a big house.
Here I have the whole beach to drive across. Usually freezes well too, we had around 9" for derby last year, when much of the lake never became safe.

Thanks for that tip, I will try that. It slid pretty nicely but being on "wheels" would make it even easier. Especially the last couple feet.
I have a spare atv winch from a quad I sold. It's a Warn xt3000, it was their top line model at the time, it was pretty new when I sold my old quad so I kept it. I will be mounting it on the trailer at some point, I haven't settled on how I want to do it yet.
Also, Santa is bringing me one of these!

Spray foam day!
Did it in the shop where I work. Toyota dealership.
Left it overnight Sat to warm up and got right to it Sunday am. Took a few hours. Came out pretty good. I have trimming and clean up to do but now it will be in a heated space
It's pretty nasty stuff to work with. It's a good thing no one was working. My brother came to help and said the chemical smell was awful, he stayed clear while I worked. I was in full ppe, suit and respirator and couldn't smell it but it burned my eyes after awhile. I ran one of the tailpipe exhaust hoses in a window and set an air blower at the door. It cleared out pretty quick. I sprayed in 4 waves and it would dissipate quickly in between. Used a full 600 board foot kit, and half of another.

Awesome progress with the build.  I love the spray foam, what are you doing for heat?  I have the vented Nu-way stove in my wheelhouse and love it.  Never any fumes or condensation.  I usually fish off Ellacoya Beach on the Broads side of Welch Island a couple times a season.  Good luck this year, the ice will be better than last year for sure.

Thanks! I'm really excited to get it out there.
I launch from Gilford beach. I fish there and I'd like to get out to the witches area.
I haven't settled on a new heater yet. I have the Mr Buddy that I used in my last house. It gets it done but yeah, un-vented sucks...
I will have a vented unit, for sure. I've looked at NuWay, nice unit and way cheap. I'm leaning toward a direct vent wall unit I think. I'm not sure what size to get, I don't know how many btu's it's going to take to run that house.
I'm kinda broke anyway so I'm probably gonna run the buddy 1 more year, figure out how much heat it needs and buy my heater next fall when I finish the interior.

My wheelhouse is much smaller and my stove is 12000 BTU's.  It heats my shanty easily on the lowest setting.  I would think if you were in the ballpark of 18k-20k BTU you would be fine.

Your wheelhouse isn't insulated to the max is it? One of the wife's candles would heat that shack with all that spray foam.

My wheelhouse has two inches of foam in the floor, 1.5" in the walls and 2" in the ceiling.  I pretty much go all season  on 20lbs of propane.

That's kind of what I'm hoping for. Spray foam was an expensive option... it better be worth it!
I like this 17,000 btu "Ashley" aka "Eskabe".
http://www.homedepot.com/p/Ashley-Hearth-Products-17-000-BTU-LP-Gas-Direct-Vent-Heater-AGDV20L/206165190
17k is still a lot of heat. A big buddy heater is 18k and was always more than enough for my far less insulated 7'x10'.
The next sizes up are a 22k and 30k by Williams. For some reason the 22k is more expensive than the 30k. They are the same cabinet, with a different burner.
http://www.homedepot.com/p/Williams-22-000-BTU-Hr-Direct-Vent-Furnace-LP-Gas-with-Wall-or-Cabinet-Mounted-Thermostat-Heater-2203821/100565240
http://www.ecomfort.com/Williams-3003821/p62308.html?utm_term=6230862308&var1=ecomfortusa&var2=adwordsfroogle&var3=2593&keyword=GOOGLEPLA-2593&gclid=CJWJov_-udECFYtMDQodWJYJjA
But then it probably won't have to run all the time. I could even have windows open a little, which is probably necessary, it's pretty air tight.
Also note, these are input btu's (propane consumption) actual output btu's much less. The 30k for example, puts 21k into the room.
But I'm probably still going to wait. Winter tends to be my "broke" season...
I hope to have her on the lake in a couple weeks. I have a little more work I want to finish this weekend and I'll be content for the season.
I'm gonna call Gilford park and rec next week and ask when the gate will be open.
Have you checked Ellacoya ice AA?
