Not sure where "ever" is.  :)

Ice fishing has occurred on a few V. Refuge lakes over the weekend. Sketchy ice at best. 3.5 inches to skim ice that didn't support a coyote. Forecast today is for 3- 5 inches of new snow and temps staying mid 20's to above freezing. I don't see additional ice being accumulated. Without being able to read the ice, getting wet is close to 100%.

How did the trip turn out Joefish?  Was there consistent ice thickness where you were fishing?

As Sandbilly mentions above, inconsistent ice thicknesses, snow lying on the ice preventing additional freezing and masking trouble areas and a forecast that won't be helpful.  Yes, a few did venture out prior to the snowfall when flaws in the ice were more easily seen.  Yes, a few fish were caught. but I don't see ice that I'm willing to fish in the immediate future.

Has anybody been out on the refuge this week? I'm hoping that they still have some ice cover when the temps drop.

I heard that what ice we had on the Refuge went out today with the two days of 60 degrees and windy conditions.

Has anyone been out to the Refuge lakes to see if any ice was left.  Sounds like the snow cover really messed things up and would not be a bad thing to completely melt off and start over.
