ice in the north country!
« on: Nov 29, 2015, 04:08 PM »
;D  Many White Mtn. ponds skimmed over last night.  Open again this afternoon but one local pond had 34 degree water temp with ice all along the shore.   I expect that I will soon see IS members posting photos of fish caught on 2 inches of shore ice??
I will wait for 4 inches of ice just before Christmas!

The 15 day forecast is looking really bad. At least at my usual early ice spot over ten degree above average temps. I hope the weather changes.

I drive over two lakes in the Concord area twice a day. Both have had some skim ice a few times already so I think once the cold hits and stays we will be locked in fast!

::)  All local small ponds have 1/2 inch of solid ice. Temp. tonight will be 16 degrees.  Every night for the next week temp will be well below freezing.  Any IS member weighing just 100 lbs will be welcome to come north in a few days ::) ::)

I saw some skim on a couple of local ponds as well.

I just bought a house at 1600' elevation, and there is a pond 3 miles away. I should take a ride by when I'm there this weekend.  :)

Dick that means that I will have to lose 120 lbs. in a few days. Going to be tough I might have to give up the brewskis.  ;D

;D  Happy to say that an inch of more of north country ice has survived the rain.   Hoping for 1/2 inch each night , beginning Thursday, we might have as much as three inches by next Tuesday.  Still less than the 4 inches that I need to hold my bulk but OK for light weight trout fishers?   Looking for for mid December fishing.

I thought you couldn't fish for trout through the ice up there before January 1st? Or are there some small ponds you are able to fish before then?

Waters managed for lake trout or salmon are January 1 to March 31 through the ice, but most other lakes and ponds can be ice fished from ice in to ice out. There are some exceptions, such as designated trout ponds, which are illegal to ice fish on.

Now as long as you don't rush to get out and go for a swim, you might get to fish before the new year?
