It's going to be a good while until we get any decent ice around, at least on Lake Champlain. Season is shaping up quite warm with this strong El Nino in place. I would wager you're looking at mid to late January before some of the shallower bays get safe on Champlain. I might target some inland lakes for the opening of the season this year. Will be looking for some monster lakers!

yeah shaping up to be a very warm winter. the water in champlain is way down so hopefully that helps some.

Ugh I hope this wrong, cold winters mean good ice fishing and more importantly cooler ocean temps, which means more inshore Bait and more Tunas!
