Fishing Trip Suggestions
« on: Nov 23, 2015, 12:08 PM »
Hello everyone,
My first post to the forums after lurking for awhile. I am new to ice fishing (started last year with a friend) and have expanded some of my knowledge and gear in the off season and am looking forward to this upcoming season. That being said, my friend and I are looking to do a little ice fishing trip. We are in the Chicago area and are looking for a decent spot to take a weekend trip (leave Friday night, fish Saturday and some of Sunday and come home). Doesn't have to be a resort, but a place that can produce some decent fish and has a motel and some food options near by. Thanks in advance for your input.

Lake Geneva comes to mind. Also many other smaller lakes just over the line that hold plenty of fish.

Always thought about a trip up to Sturgeon Bay. 4 hour drive, cheap hotels (Holiday Music Motel, Super 8) and food at Kitty O'Reilly's or Waterfront Mary's. Only problem is that your in Packers country.

drive east to Syracuse IN area.  Lake Webster, Lake Wawasee and literally 100's of other lakes with public access.  Oakwood Resort is awesome.  Plenty of other chain hotels around in Warsaw, IN too.

Lo the angler. He riseth in the early morning and upsetteth the whole household. Mighty are his preparations. He goeth forth with great hope in his heart and when the day is far spent, he returneth, smelling of strong drink, and the truth is not in him.

I have to assume you mean Devils Lake in North Dakota.  There is a Devils Lake in MN, but it's little 200 acre lake with not much to talk about.  Devils Lake in ND is the big one people make trips too.  Great Walleye/Perch fishing.

If thinking of heading to North Dakota. You need to investigate the Lehr area of McIntosh and Logan county's. The guy to get a hold of is Donald Schnering (608) 697-6910. Lots of lakes with Walleye, Pike and huge Perch. It is way cheaper than Devils lake. Nice and remote.

Can be out of state, just not too far. Probably a 3 hour window from Chicago.
