Deschambault lake 2015-2016
« on: Nov 22, 2015, 06:01 PM »
What's the ice like up at deschambault lake? Who else is planning a trip there this winter!?
The ice angler is a different breed of fisherman. Undeterred by distance, daylight or degrees, these warriors go to extreme measures to chase down the fish attempting to wait out winter below the frozen surface. Through 10-inch holes positioned amidst miles of ice they engage the elusive walleye one-by-one, yeah it's crazy, and some may never understand it.

I'm hoping to hit that lake and lots more around it hard this winter! Just picked up a mint 98 tundra from an older fellow that has maybe 20 hours on it. Going to mile this baby out along with the new auger if all goes as planned!!!
well if you were me then i'd be you and i really wouldn't know what the hell I was talking about...

my grandfather had one. one of the best trail breaking sleds there was! if you did get stuck they're so light you just tossed them over and kept going!

I will be up there a few times this winter.  I emailed them yesterday wondering what the ice was like.  Would like to get up there in the next 2 weeks if possible.  Dont expect to run accross the lake but willow island should be fine

Yup went up on 29th. Smoothest ride I've ever had up there. Nice when lake doesn't have drifts yet and enough snow to keep the engine cool. And Fishing was good of course.

Has anyone been up there.  Wondering if the trail is plowed out again this yr.  Does the trail cut off to the Puskwakau or just go straight to willow island this yr?  Heading up there next weekend.

Was up there on New Years. Ice was a good 12 to 16 " at the time. Hardly any snow could drive around in 2 wheel drive. There was an ice heave in the middle of the lake but was frozen over and no problem to drive over. Fishing was really good

where did you fish?  I would assume that by now there is a fair bit of snow up there and i don't think we would be able to just drive anywhere but that would be nice.  Taking my 85 yr old grandpa up so we are stuck to where the truck can go.  Just a day trip because he doesn't want to spend the night.  Not sure how i am going to get him in the truck at 4:00 am

We went to the Ballantyne. Talked to someone that was up there last weekend and he said you could still drive out with a 2 wheel drive. don't know how much snow they got today. Weather sounds pretty cold this weekend. I can only hope that if I make it to 85 my grand kids or someone will be taking me out fishing LOL.

Went out last weekend. Pretty much 4X4 on the lake now. If there was a trail to follow you would probably be okay but it was blowing pretty good on Sat and the trail was blowing in fairly fast.

Do they have the road plowed out to willow island?  Do you think a person can still drive out to the ballantyne with a truck without a big problem?

Garry didn't have anything plowed  out last week end but if you had a 4X4 it was no problem. When we left on Sunday you needed a 4X4 or a set of chains. You could of made it out  with a 2 wheel drive if you had a trail broke for you but it was drifting over fairly fast. Are you thinking of going up this week end

Yes, heading up there this weekend.  We will have a 4x4.  i heard Garry plowed the trail out to willow island now.  So once we get that far, we can see what the lake looks like.  Just didn't want to drive 4 hours to get stuck trying to get off the boat launch.
Thanks for the info.

Just curious how your experience was up there Ben-lucky. Heading up in 2 weeks and just curious what the ice was like. Plowed, drive able etc. Also heard a rumour that people have been filling auger blades off due to an abundance of sand in the ice. I'm thinking they were pulling my chain but I had to ask lol.

Road was plowed out.  there was 4-6 inches of snow on the lake so you could drive anywhere with ease and not have to worry.  with this warm weather i would think the snow depth would be half now.  Ice was perfect where we fished at the balantyne.  no sand.  i don't see how sand can blow accross the lake.  shore line is well treed.
fishing was good from 8am-11 ish, sucked from 11-3 and evening bite was good again.  we were fishing in 7.5 fow and did great in morning, moved to 15 fow in evening

Thank you sir! I appreciate the info! Ya the sand thing sounded ridiculous to me. I'll post my report when I'm back in 2 weeks.

To my understanding the morning bite is best. The afternoon/evening bite is touch and go. I've had mixed reports locally. Some ha e had great luck and some it's taken all day to catch 8 fish for a limit to take home. I'll be up there next weekend for 3 days. I'll report back then.

Fishing was slow yesterday from what I was told. We caught a few, but it was also first time on the lake for us.

There is a good 6-8 inches on the ice. Lots of hard drifts on the lake but we were moving around easily with 4wd
