I'm going to predict that we will be on the ice mid to late December

I don't put much into long term forecasts but it doesn't look like we will have good ice making weather til Christmas day. From there on looks good. If that holds true I should have some new toys to play with.

I have been watching you tube videos of ice fishing all morning. Getting real antsy. Jan 6th! Eithe way I pushing out my inflatable boat that day even if it's not thick enough

There's ice up there 4 to 5 inches in places. I remember plenty of times as a kid not getting out until after new years.

it's coming...extended forecasts have changed. weather patterns will favor making ice after Christmas.

I hope so! Just bought a new thermal 2 man clam and that would suck if I cant use it this season lol.

Long range forecast I just looked at which I don't put much into shows a few days in the first week of January that could make alittle ice on small bodies of water, then warming up above freezing again. We should get on something around here by mid January.

Temps in the 50's this weekend, the Big lake Temps still in the upper 40's pretty much says I am glad gas prices are down for this season. I am predicting a lot of trips north with the lite gear as I dont think we will be seeing the feet of ice we have seen the past few seasons. Good luck and STAY SAFE.

Farmers almanac says cooler and less moisture...clear ice with no snow for a while....hopefully a good base...this year...bring out your tarps

Second week of Jan. But I hope it's sooner as always. This year might be like 3 years ago. Fish good ice for 7 days or so then it warms up to no fishing and then cold again. Lets just hope guys don't take chances trying to get out on the ice. We don't need to start the season off by losing someone.

I was all set to upgrade my sonar setup this season, but after seeing the long range forecast for my area I think I'll hold off till next winter. Be a shame to buy it just to leave it on the shelf.

Might find some baitshop willing to deal Sparky. These type of seasons rough on mom and pop shops.

I suppose that's true Stinky, would need to travel north though. The baitshops down this way don't usually stock any ice gear outside of a few jigs, a couple Mora's, and some Schooleys. Unfortunately, most of my gear comes off the internet. Including bait. (spikes)

We all hope for ice. It could just be one of those years. Was trying to plan a trip around Christmas but I am changing plans. An old timer once told me to watch the squirrells and see how much fur they had. I dont think I ever mastered the technique because usually I guess wrong. I dont think we will have good ice until after superbowl.

Big waters will not be safe this year. Channels hit and miss few days on and then a few days off. First channel will be January 21. But thaws before bit picks up.lol
