Early Feb is usually good. East lake has plenty of fish. What kind are you after? I bumped another thread titled Ice Fishing Trip that has some info for ya.
Every plastics manufacturer claims plastics outfish livebait. So now I use livebait just for the increased challenge.

Where is that at

It is between upper gar and lower gar. It is connected to East O. It is a bit tricky to find, but is usually decent 118acres 16.5ft depth max. Usually decent fishing. I found it to be more of the locals go to spot. When I first heard of a good bite on it from the bait shop I thought they were messing with me. Then I found the parking lot full and shacks all over it. I found it to be a lot less of a pull with the shack to get on fish vs Miller & Emerson bays on west. When fishing you just never know what is gonna come through the hole there....crappie, blue gill, perch, walleye, yellow bass, large mouth, pike, or Muskie........I've seen mixed bags of everything there.

perch bite on west o is usually pretty good about that time. stop and check with the people at kabeles in spirit lake, or stans in milford. they can help fill you in on whats hot at a given time

I was on a bus and just happened to be sitting on a news paper. This guy came up and asked. "Are you reading that ?"
I said  yes, stood up, turned the page and sat back down.

We hit Minnewashta once last year.  Didn't get a lot, but what we got was nice.  Mostly Yellows and Bluegills.

Where were you at? Closer to shore we tend to get blue gills, out in the basin perch.

Yeah if you get in closer to shore it is more bluegill. If you get out into the deeper basin part it tends to be a mix of yellows, perch, and a few crappie

The day we were there, there weren't too many people out in the deep stuff, so we kinda followed the herd since we hadn't fished it much before that.

You should be fine. I'd dress warm though because it's going to be pretty cold out there in the boat.

A buddy and I are planning on going to the IGL's between Christmas and New Years. I expect to be limited some in where we can fish but the forecast looks like there will be walkable fishable ice somewhere

Just looked at the live Okoboji cameras and there were some real nice white caps rolling in to shore. RH

Do not know how close Upper Red, or what state, is to Okoboji without looking it up, but just got back from Upper Gar with 3in. ice and last year the Gar had about 12in. 1st day was good, next two days were tough.

Head north from Spirit/Okoboji for about 350mi and you'll find Upper Red.

When we went for lunch around noon everything I saw on west was wide open. When we got done fishing around 5 smiths bay was all skim ice. Drove down to Emerson ramp and that was locked up too. Snow tomorrow is not going to be good for making ice, hope it blows hard.
