Break in CLam Farmer / Started Today
« on: Nov 12, 2015, 09:00 AM »
Got home from hunting this morning and looked up Lynng's post on break in. This is a 3 day process according to the link he provided. Started mine up, day 1 is in the book. Now it needs to cool overnight. Took a few cranks for it to pick up the fuel, maybe 10. Started to get concerned. It started and I couldn't believe how quiet it was. Makes the old Jiffy 30 sound like a diesel. Get to go to half throttle tomorrow, ye ha!

Is that all that really needs doing, bee.

It does sound more like it. I was surprised to hear about gentling the thing into action like that.

I can’t find the adjustment point you told me about. Where the heck is it?

Joe, here you go. Same basic procedure is also recommended by Frank DeLuca (SharpNils).  I used it to break in my Tanaka 350 and it has run and started great.

Thanks lynng! I’ll make it so!

It’ll be a while for some ice, Pretty sure my spud will see action first.

Maybe we can put a few on the ice together sometime.  :icefish:

That's how I would have done it if I hadn't listened to these guys. I see Lynng has hooked you up CF.

I'd like that; think we will have enough ice by February  ;).  I have the Nils auger, both the 8 and 10 inch.  In early season I just stick the handle on the 8 inch and use it as a hand auger. It is amazing how easily that thing cuts compared to my old StrikeMaster.

My brother made me a spud with the cutting edge from a carbide paper cutting edge. Up to 6 - 8 inches of ice is easy. I like using it. It cuts like 4 inches to a chop. The ice does fly! The pounding actually attracts some species of fish. CAn’t wait to try the drill too!

Day 2 started like it did yesterday. Ran good through the procedure. Hope this thing starts better. I'm a good one for ripping the pullcord out of the rewind when things don't go right. Going to hunting camp for the weekend, will pick it back up Sunday. Hope it's attitude has changed by the time I get back.

All my new engines go through a bit different process.
I start them up and get them warm, then run them until they are hot.. Shut off and let them get cold. Repeat 10 times. I've found it seats the rings nicely.
Look at me I can walk on water

I’ve been hunting from Dedham to Rt 9. Deer sign is meager at best. After the big snow we had in 09 or10 they never really came back. Before then, it was unusual to at least not jump one or hear one blow. I beleve last winter really knocked back what was left. I found a couple decent crossings. I guess I’ll park my butt in one of em, at least unless we get some snow to be able to figure out what the population looks like and is doing. No one is seeing much there.

Right down pathetic. Hunted downeast further Friday and Saturday. Snack Bar in Beddington has tagged 2. Fox Hill store in Wesley has tagged just 1. That is an incredible amount of acreage for just 3 deer. Bucks that are being shot are the small ones. Suggesting to me the mature bucks were to worn out to survive the deep snows after the rut. We are all hoping that if we get some cold weather things will change, but I am concerned for the herd. It doesn't look good.

Back to the break-in. It started better today and did the final procedure. It seems to run fine, wish I had a foot of ice to try her out in. Looked for a primer bulb, found nothing on this model Fishlessman.

The deer herd is in hard shape around here. I’m really hoping we see a few mild winters with good feed for the critters. Where I’m at there are no big animals tracks. Not much of anything, sen doe sign.

Seem to be a few on the coastal zone though. There’s a few buck around Egypt that seem to be coming and going from Henderson’s. A buddy has been seeing a few between Hancock and Penobscott. No bucks during legal shooting, though.

That area did set records for snow fall amounts last winter . .....
.Not Good.....  The deer are still thick as fleas in Eastport. Lots of feeders out there I think.

In the market for a 10” 25 yr old Strikemaster Magnum III Chipper?

I’ll let it go reasonable. I’ll EVEN throw in an extra blade that could use a little tlc.  :icefish:

I just started doing Jiffy auger curls and dead lifts yesterday. Time to get the legs, back and arms in shape. :flex: :flex:
