Fishslap (Shaun) and I decided to search for the first ice of the 2015/16 season, so we got to the trailhead at dawn. It was definitely ice-making weather up there, single digit temps. Needless to say, our faces froze on the hour hike up to the lake. Spudded our way out, and found 3-5" of solid ice. Drilled tons of holes, and got into some quality brookies. It felt great to have ice beneath our feet and the flashers running again. Hot coffee in one hand, jigging rod in the other. Temps warmed up late morning, and we enjoyed bluebird skies all day. We also heard clashing antlers and looked over to see two sparring moose on the rise above the lake. It was a perfect start to the 2015/16 season!

I know about lower temps at higher elevs., but it still doesn't seem right that you'e ice fishing in Colo but we have 10 C water here in S. Ont!!

I could say 'nice brookies' but that seems like a redundant term.

It was a pretty awesome day. Brutal cold on the way in but well worth it. And we capped it off with some wings and a calzone at the local dive.
