still some fall walleyes to be caught.....hopefully for another month. now that all the big ski boats are put away...great time to check your first ice spots and maybe find new ones and enjoy the turn over.but yes it wont be long. everyone have a safe hard water season. ;)

What is the lake looking like today?  Anyone out there?  I drove out last week to check out a new spot I want to try.  Excited after many a fishless hour last season.
Get outside.  It does a body and mind good!

drove by yesterday, ice forming on shorelines, still wide open. long forecast temps look great for making ice. strong winds will slow the process. will be checking and posting every few days also .

whole lake was iced over yesterday all be it very thin. quite a change from last report on Thursday. other than todays temps and wind which could very well see open water again >:( I'm going to say next weekend i should be fishing on 3-5".

There was 2.5" ice all across the south end this noon. I drilled 10+ holes. It opened up in deeper part in the afternoon.

The ice was solid and quieter than usual. There was not even one cracking sound with that Doppler effect. There were a few long cracks every fifty yard or so which sealed with black ice. The rest looked white with a fur of snow. I went out thirty yards and found no more than five fow. Then I stayed at least ten yards from rotten shore line and went along until I found twelve fow. The fishes were at ten fow. If it has survived the afternoon heat on Sunday, that end should be safer to walk on this weekend. I only brought hand drill. I did see tire marks on the dam.

Has anybody been along the north end. Was thinking of heading out there Friday. Don't want to head out there if you can't even get to the lake or if there is one 2-3" of ice. It's supposed to be cold the next couple nights so unless there is tons of snow I figured the ice should be thick enough to walk on.

going out on Thursday ice picks and spud in hand.will be checking a few areas out and post my findings.these will only be my observations on certain areas. just remember never take anyone s word on ice thickness at first ice. and especially when there's snow cover. :nono: what's 4-5 " in one area may be 1-2" in another.

I agree that no matter what you say I will take all precautions. I just was wondering on approx. Ice thicknesses and how much snow is on the ice. But you make sure your careful out there and good luck

How's the road and trail? I'm worrying about my van getting stuck again in deep snow.

oh yeah, I'm sure most of you know but for those who don't stay away from that white ice if possible. especially if there is snow on top of it. the stuff i ran into today was slushy on top and quite possibly very week this early on.

Thx. I may jig a while tomorrow at the south dam. I hope it is not too windy. Last year I was jigging on top of 4" of ice and 1" of water. It felt like walking on open lake.

Road had little snow. Shoreline had thin ice as expected. I poked through while trying to find a spot along the south dam to get on. There was some snow cover and patches of white ice. Ice is ~6".

I hope the photo shows! I tried getting a pic from photobucket but I struggle with copying the link. The lake was making lots of noise this morning!
I'm just trying to get another bite.

Last Sunday, ice got strong at shoreline. There was no other fisherman in sight. Small walleyes, pikes and jumbo perches were found at 23 fow. Pikes were shallow too.
