Single or dual beam?
« on: Oct 07, 2015, 09:44 PM »
I want to buy a Showdown fish finder. Is the dual beam transducer worth the extra money or is the single beam good enough. I rarely fish on ponds over 45 feet deep, often on ponds half that deep.

Get the dual beam if you can afford it. Narrow beam is good for weed pockets as well as steep drop offs.

I just learned I don't have the choice any more. Marcum is no longer making the dual beam version. Now I know why nobody had them in stock since the middle of last winter.

It looks like they are getting phased out. I'd look at something else.

I'll get the single beam. I like the vertical grey display better than the round colored display on a typical flasher.

until they move the remaining units.

Why would would you buy a unit with only one cone angle/beam ? Adjusting the area you view to the depth your fishing is a major part of using sonar IMO.

Why? If your colorblind the have different color pallets you can choose from on new units.

If there are any dual beam units left I can't find one. I spent several hours online looking for one and everyone is sold out.

I'd check around at your local shops, who knows you might find one that they have sitting on a shelf that didn't sell last year.  If you want I'll check around in my area, see if I can find one, and if they'll ship it to you if you want.  I also got the Showdown Dual beam because I didn't like looking at a multi-colored circle, nothing wrong with that, and can't say a bad thing about it.  It's sad they're dropping the dual beam, makes no sense to me.
