Jiggenfrogs your shanty build looks better every time you post new pictures. Nice work by your wife and mother in law on the cushion covers. Looking forward to seeing pictures from the shanty's maiden voyage onto the ice.

Well it is kindah officially done ;D  It seems like there is always something else to do.  I put a whisky/spice rack in, painted the door and trim, put a couple 12 v fans  in, installed the front hitch and back hitch, made a rod holder and a few other items.  I may put another shelf or two in on the lake, and a filet table, but it is ready and so am I ;)  Got er loaded thanks to my good buddy and his hydraulic tilt trailer and bobcat.  I built a set of skids for it to ride on that are a few inches taller than the skis and a foot in from the original skis so it will stay on the trailer.  Worked slick.  Will be hauling tomorrow :o

Jiggenfrogs may the transport of your shanty be problem free ,also unloading at the lake. One suggestion you may want to put reflective strips like on edge of your friends trailer on the sides of shanty. Lets people on snowmobiles and ATVs know your location at night the strips are required in some states.

Took the trip and it was a great success!  The trip on the road went well and the offloading of the shack took minutes.  The second set of skis worked great.  I had to jack the shack up and remove the second set of skis and then hooked onto the shack with the argo...wondering can I pull this pig...and with ease it slid of the blocks and away we went.  Wow, I was revived ;D  I was able to stop and start no problem.  The big skis made the difference because it is not light by any means.  We caught a few fish out of the shack the first night to brake it in.  The weather was nice about -15 to 10 so we were able to bounce around and find some fish.  Two people in the group had never caught a lake trout and they landed a few with a couple in the upper teens pushing 20lbs.  Here are a few final pictures of this one...hope some people were able to pick up a few ideas from the build.  It was a lot of fun, but i'm some glad it is over and yes I was able to stayed married through it though it was not easy ;D

It almost looks like net marks on that last fish.  I'm glad everything worked out and happy to see you caught some nice fish.  I think the wife and kids will be real happy with the new shack.  Trudy is obviously very happy.

I too have enjoyed following your build!! The only problem with it being done, is that we've lost some excellent shack porn!! But enjoy it, and post some pictures from time to time!!!  :icefish:

Very nice to see it on the ice! See you have a bottle of liquid panty remover on board! Do you leave it out on the ice or haul, it back to shore?
Is it ice time yet???

It stays on the ice until May.  I usually move around to a few different spots.  I do have a few bottles of Allens, and we are checking with distributors to see if they will carry it.  Lot of Mainahs up here that want it ;D

Hello,
Newbie here...love the shack, what did you use for fasteners to fasten the UHMW to your Angle Iron and the skid itself ? I'm copying your skis ;)
Thanks

I think I went with #14 wood screws to fasten the UHMW to the front, middle and back where the wood spacers run across the ski.  I can't remember the size of bolts and lock nuts probably 1/4'' I used for the to attach the Aluminum to the wood and then the Aluminum to the UHMW.  Make sure to counter sink the UHMW so your screw heads will not catch when hauling.  The 14 screws were 2'' with large heads so they will not pull through the UHMW.  I glued each 2x8 section together and used 1/2 threaded rod to help hold the together.  Good luck!  If you use 1/2'' UHMW you will need a heat gun to bund the UHMW and make your skis longer then your shack so you can attach a hitch for hauling.

Hey Jiggin - hope you are having a successful ice fishing season.  What are you using to block your shanty up?  I started with cinder blocks but felt they are too high.

Fishing has been good and the shack has worked out awesome.  I took up some 4x6 chunks and jacked it up on them.  We don't get a lot of over flow, so we can get away with the 4'' all winter.

Lesson learned, well I knew better, but forgot and cut the corner when building the shack.  I didn't vapor barrier the roof and frost is building up under the metal roofing and when the shack heats up it drips in a few spots.  Enough to drive me crazy.  I will pull the metal roof and run a vapor barrier or tar paper under the metal roof.  Figured I would pass it on so others don't make the same mistake ;)

Jiggen, beautiful shack man! I fish Lake Louise as well and am going to build (try to at least) a similar shack as yours design-wise. Me and my girlfriend saw your shack in Mid-April at the lodge while we were checking out the different shacks and getting ideas for this summer/fall.

Sometime I wouldn't mind asking you a few questions about it if you would be so kind!

I built a set of skids for it to ride on that are a few inches taller than the skis and a foot in from the original skis so it will stay on the trailer.  Worked slick.

Amazing work! Planning a similar sized project up north of you. Can you explain more about your loading skids?  What was thencpnstruction, how did you attach them? UHMW on them too?

I'm going to have to load and unload mine at the start and end of each season - anything you'd do different with yours if you had to do that with yours?

How did you use the bobcat to load?

Thanks!

If I had to load and unload then I would not go 10' wide!  I don't plan on trailering it again.  The second set of skis I built set in a foot or so from the permanent skis and they had no UHMW.  I simply used left over angle iron and attached it to the shack and skis with lags.  Ten foot wide is nice, but to trailer it would require a permit, light and sign....you could make it 8' x 20' to make up the difference and it would load on a 8'6'' trailer no problem.  I removed them after it was at the landing and off the trailer.   I built a back tow/jacking bar that goes across the back and used for the bobcat also, so it would not damage the shack.  It did bend it, but it is what it is.
