Saw a swamp maple yesterday with leaves red already, August is half shot and by end of September we'll probably be touching off the wood stove. Won't be long now, best get your fair weather chores wrapped up

Starting to think I need to get my bow out and dial in my groups.
I've got my hardwater gear all staged in my garage, just have to get around to respooling reels etc...
Tried canoe fishing and finally had a decent weekend without being blown all over, perch were cooperative.

Perchbait and I caught a bunch of white perch the other day, right where everyone was catching them last March/April.  I've gotta say, it was much more pleasant catching them from the boat than it was standing on the ice last winter!  We threw them all back, but it sure was fun.  Anyone know if they are buying whites right now?  Might be a fun way to spend an afternoon some time.

I just had my last package of white perch filets last night from the freezer.
They are fun to catch in 40 FOW on a jig stick and tasty.

I think I've got 1 package left ... gonna have to dig that out pretty soon!  The whites are tasty in the winter but get a little strong in the summer.  We found that out last year .... June they were fine but the ones we caught late July were quite "fishy".  Might depend on where they were living for the summer, though.

CF2 was that oyu out there last Saturday?
I was there with my youngest in the canoe. We caught loads of them 7-10" mostly trolling flatfish lures

I don't remember seeing a canoe out there, mudchuck, but we were out Saturday afternoon.  We fished north of the point/green can (just outside the moored sailboats) until the thunderstorm to the south cleared out (4pm or so, maybe?).  Then we headed out around Burton's and then off the south side of Ball.  Caught whites everywhere we went!  We have a 1967 14' Starcraft / 20hp Merc and all the fishing gizmos on board (downriggers, electric trolling motor, etc).  What time were you out there Saturday?

Got out early around 8AM, fished from the launch to the point, about 200yds off the shoreline. Perch were hitting good for a while, then stopped, so we moved out farther.
Then we were out by the green can up 'til 12:30ish, then head back in for the day.
Hathaway launch is choked with that nasty algae, I think I'm done with the bay until hardwater.
