Help w open face reel's
« on: Jul 18, 2015, 07:05 AM »
I am having trouble with the line wrapping around the drag adjustment knob while retrieving line.  It happens quite often but most often while there is a pig on the hook and your attention is focused down the hole and not what the line is doing.  They say Genz Sticks on the spool but not sure what brand other than that and I have 6 lb floro on them.  Any ideas why the line doesn't wrap up on the spool like it should?

Try micro ice line. Floro can be a pain. Use it for leader material only.

You should add your location to your profile.

Could be too much line on the reel ...also make sure you manually close the bail ...good habit to get into
if you set the hook and then reel down to the fish it sometimes creates slack in the line and when you reel up causing a mess ...usually when there are tons of fish down below and your rushing to set reel and land them before they move off.

Spinning reel? Sounds like a little to much line on the spool...

or is it just a cheap reel that came with the combo?  I have had problem big problems  with my ht brand reels doing the same thing of courser I only paid $20  for the combo is most likely why... but have had it happen every now and then on my shimano's and micthels  diawas etc..... that I paid 50 for the reel alone but my ht seems to be more prone to it......  I think it was caused from memory in the line its self but who knows...

I had the same problem on a frabill reel.  The drag knob was very tall and I found the line wrapping around it no matter how much line was on the spool.  I ended up sanding the adjustment knob on the corners.  no issues after that.  Not sure if you are willing to take some 150 grit to your reel, but if doesn't function as is, why not?

Thanks for the reply's.  Yes, they are the reels that came on the combo so I'm gonna try reducing the amount of line on the reel.  I am looking at some in-line reels to replace them with.

Why not just get in habit to pulling line snug on spool after you close the bail?
