junction box
« on: Jun 17, 2015, 08:35 PM »
It's a little late in the year for this but maybe someone can help me out. I am running power off a 12v battery and would like to add a port for a voltmeter, usb plug, and cigarette adapter for various things. I will also be adding rocker switches to all 3 units to control them individually. Now I have looked for a junction box to where I can put all of these things but have come up empty in my search for the right dimensions. Can I build a box out of wood and line the inside with something for safety reasons? Or is this just a bad idea?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Wood works, I wouldn't feel the need to line it with anything. But I'm betting amazon or ebay would net you a plastic hobby box just for such things.

Here's what I used for my box.  http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000GQJ3TW/ref=sr_ph_1?m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&ie=UTF8&qid=1437564970&sr=1&keywords=flambeau+box

I've got a switch, breaker, two Cigarette lighter ports, and I'm adding a switch and binding posts for 12v LED's....now if I can just figure out how to wire it all together lol

I'd keep the battery in a separate box, then use one of these 4x4x4 plastic electrical boxes.  I've used them for other outdoor projects and they work great.
