Mora 6" auger
« on: May 16, 2015, 01:44 PM »
This might be a silly question but I finally had a chance to sort through my equipment and start putting it away. I changed the blades on my 6" Mora hand auger and used stainless screws. They extend out from the bottom of the blades by up to almost 1/8". I filed the previous screws down flat to the blades but will the screws sticking out beyond the blade affect the augers performance?
Curios but lazy too.
Thanks.

Yes they will, they'll keep the blades from contacting the ice properly and cause them to cut like crap if they cut at all - file them flat.

The angle of the blades may be greater than the length of the threads. if so it will not effect it.

that's what I was thinking so I went and looked at mine they barely protruded through but I know in the past I have had them showing through a bit without an issue  if it is make shim for it

You could add a lock washer under the head of the screw.

Think I'm just gonna file them down. I must have a really old auger as there are counterbores where the heads of the screws fit into. Haven't seen another like that. Can't use washers.

Are you using genuine Mora blades from Sweden? If off breed they may be a thinner blade.
