Storing Flip Over During the Summer
« on: May 15, 2015, 10:05 AM »
I've got a Clam "1.5" person flip-over shelter (with cover) that I picked up on an incredible Craigslist deal last winter.  Well, the time has come that the ol' lady isn't liking it taking up a ton of room sitting on a garage table.  I've thought about putting it up in the rafters in the garage ceiling, but they're too far apart so I'd have to do some modifying, plus the thing is awkward enough to get into the back of my SUV--I can't imagine trying to hoist it up there.

What's everyone do with their flip-overs during the summer?  Pictures would be great!

Also, any secrets to keeping mice out?  I've got it laced with dryer sheets currently, as that's what we do to keep mice from working on our cabin over the winter and haven't had any problems.  To be fair, I'm not sure if it's the dryer sheets or the fact that the heat is off so it's not any warmer in there than outside over the winter.

Hope everyone is enjoying their springs!

I put mine in the tool shed that holds my gardening and lawn care stuff. I stand it up against the wall and it is out of the way. I tried just keeping it under the deck, but the wind was able to work dust into every nook and cranny.

I actually pull the cover off of my Kenai, then store the tub etc. in my kids barn.

Be careful as mice and chipmunks can actually climb walls. I had a bag of pop corn hanging off the rafters of my garage. One day when I walked in the door there was a chipmunk eating my pop corn out of the hanging bag.

I watched a mouse climb up the t-111 siding and go in the hole where the electrical service came through the soffit. From their it was in the attic.

I keep mine in my den. I leave it flip over most of the time and flipped up for additional room as needed.

where ever you keep your flip over or what ever you use put dryer sheets in it to keep the mice out. don't just use one, throw in a half dozen or more. those little f'ers will get into everything.

My Clam Guide sits on a top shelf I extended in the garage. The jet sled hangs from the rafters.

X2 on the dryer sheet. I have seen mice in the garage before but not as bad as my shed where I really would like to put them. Just not willing to take a chance on mice.

...What's everyone do with their flip-overs during the summer? ...

I have mine under the snow tires, leaning against the wall in the garage.  I wrapped a bungee cord around it so the kids (or I) don't knock it over.  The bungee is attached to eye bolts screwed into the studs.

It ain't fancy, it just frees up some floor space.

I used to keep them in the garage on top of a closet (does not go to the ceiling).  I take the cover off, wash it and put it in a garbage bag with dryer sheets.  Stored a big pop-up in the sled until mice ate the living $h&t out of it.  Now everything is in the basement.

Changed it up a bit added strut and removed the 1x1's to get the bow out of it , I just need to cut to length and bolt together.

I remove the tent, place it in a good sealable tote, with a few dry sheets like others have mentioned, and place the tote and tub up in my garage loft. I installed a set of pull down stairs to make things easier.
It is what it is....

Sweet! I can't get my truck back far enough for something like that for me, but if you have the room it's the ticket for sure. I have garage door and then two 8' lights so mine are up all the way in the back of my garage. Very cool though man!
