Just heard from my buddy in Eagle Butte, SD. It's 34* with about 4" of snow & another 3 to 5 inches expected. Maybe some fishable ice

Toward the end of the season I stumbled across a spot while walking the dogs with the lady. It was a cove off a cove with deep water and steep walls on three sides in a river known for the occasional pike. It's a ways away from the popular area and I didn't see any signs of anyone fishing it so I'm pretty sure its mine and mine alone.

It has group fishing party written all over it. Sheltered, deep, adjacent to shallow water with steep drop offs….. bonfire, beer, twenty plus tip ups.. hot dogs with kim chi…

normally I would say 30 days, but local ponds warmed up a bit the last 2 weeks.
lakes are iced up in Alaska, it's coming..

A few of the local ponds have a skim over some of the coves. The ice yesterday lasted all day in a few of them. We are weeks from safe ice not a month. (Hope I didn't just jinx it)

ill be at the chu tomorrow! 4hours of sleep! 1hr 40 min drive at 4 am. fishing for 12 hours. TOTALLY WORTH IT!!!!
