Otter Mods before storage
« on: Apr 17, 2015, 02:02 PM »
Before I put the Otter up on the shelf for the year decided to do some mods since it is a lot nicer now. After looking at some posts on another site I decided to Plasti Dip the interior of the tub to lighten it up. Used the Charcoal color with a light coat of white over that. Also used some broom clips from Menards to mount wind poles on inside of tub.

it is pretty easy. I just washed the inside of the tub good with soap and water. Let it completely dry. Taped off what I did not want coated. I started with the white I had left over but I thought that would be too light so I got some of the gray at Menards. Just put it on in light coats until you get the desired coverage you want, I put on the last coat a little heavier. When I got done with the gray looked a little dark so put a thin coat of white over it to lighten it up. All in all went through 1 can of gray and whatever was left in the white which was probably a 1/2. The one problem I ran into was when I took the tape off some of the plasti dip stuck to it so it peeled away from the tub so I recommend taking off the tape soon after the last coat, I left mine on overnight. Not a big deal just cleaned up the lines with a razor blade.

That looks awesome SINX.  I've got the Magnum but bought some Hyfax and now would consider this Platsi Dip after seeing yours.  Once  it cures is the stuff pretty bulletproof?  Like bed liner material?   I grew up on Poygan and miss the WI ice for sure.   Trout just aren't the same as Wally's, Perch and Pike...for me anyway.
Thanks

Not sure about the reliability yet. That is why I did it now before I put it away for the year, so it will have 6 months to "cure".  I know while I was storing stuff inside for storage I scuffed a couple of spots. Next season will be the test, hopefully it will hold up to all the abuse of throwing stuff in the tub and having stuff bounce/slide around will traveling. Good thing if it doesn't hold up you can coat right over it or just peel it off.
