I was on maranacook yesterday 12 inches in my spot which by the time I left around 1:30 it was getting slushy and ice had melted a lot.  Pretty decent action had a couple good fish give me the shake, not sure what about the hook set made them hard to catch but ended the day with a few pickerel and yp.  I had one yellow that I thought was a smallmouth when it came out the hole, it was about a foot long dark green pushed out face, no dark bars, but the give away was the orange on the fins.  Hybrid maybe ??

I've got the itch... No, not that one. It's the good kind.
It's pronounced "fay-len" (the x's are silent)

York county. It's not a white it's a yellow, you can barley see the stripes and it has the orange fins

I caught one that dark out of Great Pond in Cape this winter. Thought it was quite odd.

I catch a couple yellow perch with the same grey marking every winter. They don't seem too unusual in some places. Most, possibly all were males. I don't keep records of those things. It might mean the genes that determine color are on the gender chromosomes. I'm probably speculating too much about fish genetics.

Was planning on going one last time this weekend.  Rode by pond earlier this week and then again on Friday.  Tuesday looked okay, Friday looked sketchy.  Wasn't planning on fishing there but the one I wanted to fish is south of here and a little bit of a drive. Much to my dismay I am throwing in the towel.  Plenty of work around the homestead to do anyway.

Does that mean ice is out on Highland?

Ice went out yesterday.  Fished it today.  No luck, and still lots of weeds, pine needles and reeds floating in the water.  Trolling was a salad-fest.  Some kids fishing in a jon boat were catching small bass in two feet of water.

I finally put my gear away today.  Auger blades oiled, sled put away, reels untaped from jig rods and transferred to other rods for open water.  Best ice season ever for me by far.  I'm looking forward to stripers, but can't wait to be jigging togue again too!

What ?? Trolling highland ??  For what ?? The lake association had the stocking program stopped at highland  like 3 years ago . you know that you were there spokesman .  Did you think there were holdovers or are you changing to bass ?

Do I win? Haven't been to active this season. Life's been a tad bit hectic this season. I had a decent season, nothing to brag about, but nothing to be ashamed of either. I'll put up a season highlight post when I get in front of a laptop.

By the way, picture is from today. And yes, the trap is actually fishing. No fish came to hand however

.... The lake association had the stocking program stopped at highland  like 3 years ago . ....

Uh, no that isn't true at all.
The STATE stopped the stocking program all on their own much to many folks disappointment in greater Portland.  The lake association then applied for a trout stocking permit afterwards and it was denied.  That permit application's intent was to allow anyone around including all non residents to continue to catch and keep trout that the state didn't pay for but was funded by passing the hat around to anyone who wished to contribute. It was denied.  You can't truthfully say anyone but the state wanted to stop stocking that lake.

EPKOMD, you win so far!  ;D
