Several questions? Do you plan to bobber fish, jig, fish from shore or a boat. I use St Croix.. 6'8" Med Light fast Mojo Bass, and 7' Med light extra fast Eyecon. Both rods work equally well with bobbers; or jigging. My EyeCon is a 2 piece so it's easy to carry when I bank fish.
I do have a 10' BnM crappie rod for docks and trees; but would not recommend it (or a 9' rod) if I were only to buy one. I would stick with a 6'6" to 7' rod, and buy the best you can afford.

Good luck.

The 6'8" Mojo is hard to beat, that and a 6'6" Ugly stick medium light for what I need.

Folks, he's looking for a 9' rod.  I'm guessing it's for crappie?
Last spring, I put on waders and walked out into the flooded trees in the backwaters looking for spawning crappie, also paddled around in my canoe a lot.  Really wished I had a 9' rod so I could drop the jig into the spots without getting close enough to spook the fish.
I'm in the market for one, too!
I'll probably go for an Ugly Stick, just because I'm familiar with it and I know it's a decent rod that's affordable.  But I'd like to hear suggestions.

If you are just going to use it for noodling crappie get a 10' rod. B'n'M Buck's ultimate. Sensitive with a lot of backbone. I love mine!
