Bantam update
« on: Apr 01, 2015, 09:23 AM »
My brother and I walked right onto Bantam yesterday afternoon in an area (east shore) that usually shows open water by now. 6 " slush , 10-12" good ice. Fished into the night under a 2 " snow squall. No crappies or perch but non stop gills (at least 100). Culled out the best 2 dozen. Jigged up one 15" smallie and a couple of rock bass. One word of caution, Marsh Point Road loop is extremely muddy. I bottomed out in the ruts  with my Honda Element . Without 4 wheel drive  would  never have gotten out of there.

Never just walked on but got on with a plank many times. I have fished sandy beach cove when the whole rest of the lake was open water. That year I followed deer tracks onto the ice. Figured if the deer didn't fall through i would be ok.
