How Thick Is Batterson
« on: Mar 27, 2015, 12:50 PM »
I just might have one more trip in me at Batterson and was wondering if  anyone has checked the edges and the average solid ice thickness.
Everyone be safe!

Thanks

another guy from here and i are planning on going out around sunset today
dont have any live bait anymore but have some of the shiners i got that died and salted   so il probably be fishing bottom for catfish
i would assume all is still safe based on how much ice  and GOOD ice batterson had when we were there
weather may be a bit junky  but its worth it to go out for a few hours imo

i know for a fact a few guys i know are out today on a MUCH smaller and MUCH shallower pond
edges may be a bit thin  but the other guy said he would be bringing a plank tonight
will try to post an update from my phone when i get there in a few hours

Went out Thursday night , right around the pavement at the launch there was water maybe 10ft out. But I  fish out by the right shore it was good . No problem.

Being a small pond , the water temps change very quickly its 20 feet deep at most. it will go ice out fast

Thanks for all your input, I appreciate it.There were thin spots opening up and water on the edges Tuesday night.  The only day i can go now is Sunday, which is pushing it. We'll see when the time comes, but it's looking like time to start prepping the boats.

-batterson's a bit too low for me-300 ft. above sea level.-I'lldrive by crescent: 120 ft. higher elevation+ cut a few holes bythe launch to see how it held up- but I'm not really expecting too much.-any icefishing tobe had this week and next should be confined to out northwest; high elevation ponds+lakes-batterson's a no-go- but there's plenty of ponds+bait shops' on the way up in the n.w. hills that icefishing is "on" for another week or two for anyone who wants to travel a bit.

Walked around batterson today put some holes in the ice. Most spots have a good solid 7-10 in. Some areas near shoreline are down to 5 though. Launch is wet but not broken up. No sluch on the ice but there is 3 in of snow. Didnt see any wet spots in the snoW but eho knows whats under it.

Sadly, I finally come to realize that my most enjoyable ice season ever is over. :( I have met so many great icemen on my new ventures from this great site and I'm looking forward to fish with you guys again.  ;D
I packed it all away and now its time for open water prep.
See ya on the softwater.

I was on and off no issue friday night to saturday, fished 9 pm to 430 am and had no issue the ice was even starting to harden and refreeze a little. The is was real soft on top but about 4-5 inches down it was good and had about 14-15 inches still.  I would think you can still get on as of today easy
