Power Auger throttle cable maintenance
« on: Mar 27, 2015, 12:49 PM »
I have had power augers for decades, but only recently with throttle cables. I'm not impressed with the throttle freezing, and of course making the trip less fun than it should be. Any input is welcome. I don't think make and model is important for my purposes, only that the throttle is a cable. Thank You for your input.

Yup I've had that problem. Best to keep them under cover when not in use. And on really cold days I put her on the passenger side to warm up on our way to the ice
Come on get on the ice fish!!

On cold snowy days I throw a bag over it when not using it just to keep the water out. Secret is to take it out of the truck at night and allow it to thaw out and dry. I keep it all lubed with wd40 which isn't probably the best thing but it works for me.

best little tool ever. I was introduced to these when I was racing dirt bikes. Pretty straight forward just hook up to one end of the cable, and use the little red noodle on most any spray lube to inject lube into the sleeve on your cable. pb blaster, wd40, and spray silicone are some of the better ones. ;)
