My next ice shack project!
« on: Mar 26, 2015, 05:46 PM »
Call me crazy, but i'm building a floating platform to set one of my wheel shacks on this summer! 8X24 ft and no motor. Haul it out with boat and anchor it for the weekend!
Is it ice time yet???

Are you going to use Poly or fiberglass pipe filled with foam  . I thought I would pickup an old pontoon boat .But Aluminum freezes to water wet snow..

Old pontoon boat has a light load limit, going to use blue plastic 55 gallon drums. Each one will float 400 pounds. Been studying this for awhile. Lots of info on the web.

I have also thought about a couple of poly floats on either side of a snowmobile  so one could adjust the height of the mach. It could drive the pontoons  on snow or water.

Will there be a dinghy on shore to row out in,or some other way I can get out to it?  ;D

Will there be a surrounding deck for casting from? Can we tow it down the lake for the night? Will there be refrigeration? Solar? Dish?  :flex:

Clamfarmer should be thinking of a float like that also  put it on the flats at high tide and load it with your days diggings .Would beat carrying those clams in  , Float them in to a dock.

Not sure if you need them, but there is a guy in Lee that has a bunch of those blue barrels.  Or at least he used to.  I can find out easy enough, let me know if you need some and I will do some digging.........

I love that idea, holes in floor for jigging year round and putting the flasher to use.  A deck for casting sounds great too!  However, since it is an ice theme, you should also cut out some holes in the deck to set some traps... Fun with flags in July!  Now just remember, two line limit when fishing open water lol. Of course if you do so, you have to yell "Flag!" across the lake to confuse the locals and excite some ice fishermen that are in their "off season".

I Just watched a show on Nat Geo Wild about this idea.
They built one on Cranberry pond in NY .
It was awesome and you could play poker and jig at the same time.
They used the big black poly floats. The 1st section weighed about 7,000 lbs and then they attached the 2 sections together.

The window for the cabin was a door off a front loader washer, very cool.
Good luck !!!!!

SnoPro,
Your brain cramp is not as far out there as some people think. 30 yrs ago I built a 12'x32' barge and put a tri-level bachelor pad on it for a client that wanted to live aboard in a marina and this guy from last summer.

I think you have enough barrels for what you want to do.
