Called a buddy today I hadn't talked to in awhile. Family commitments and other things had limited his time to fish this year. He was on a time constraint due to having to work second shift. That gave us about a four hour window to get out and beat the rain. Was pleasantly surprised when we reached our spot. The clouds quickly dispersed and made way for bright blue skies. Zero action for the first three hours. Lost a couple eggs but that was all she wrote. Around 1130, about 30 minutes before departure time "flag up". Got to the trap and it was barley moving. Small amount of line was out so I set it and he was there. Not much of a fight, but it was tough getting his head to turn in the hole with 24+ inches of ice. Landed this heathy male bow. Close to 22" and I would estimate 4 pounds. Caught in 5 fow on a smelt. My buddy kept him for dinner as he was hooked deep and bleeding pretty good. Great day to be out
