You aren't the first one, another post this winter but that guy was fishing without the display shield.  Do a search, I think that guy was able to fix it himself.

It was an LX-6 but they are similar.  Here's a link.

did you have the shield off? is it condensation from the water in the case that got into it? can you see any cracks in the case? screws tight?

can you post some pics for us?

Did the ol tear down and what I found is that the glass screen is very pourly sealed to the LCD screen if you or any one else has this problem I would suggest not tearing your unit apart if you are not technically inclined could see someone not having a very fun time putting the unit back together. But all in all did a good job cleaning her up even sealed it back up with new silicone shouldn't have the problem again

must be why they install the snow/water shield on top of it. they must know about it being able to get water into it too.
i want mine on because i don't want an accidental scratch on the glass.

what happened with the phone call?

Am I remembering right that the snow shield on the LX-7 used to be an option?  Then they started including it with all units.

that might explain the dilemma, if so.
i bought one knowing how important they must be (at the same time asking my self why it wasn't water proof). then when the unit arrived, it already had on on it.

sounds like maybe getting a thin layer of silicone on the top of the unit might be a good thing. opening it might void the warranty, but then again the silicone might too.
i take my cover off when wearing sun glass's but pay even closer attention to not getting water on it. fish like throwing water at it tho when releasing them.
